Events in Cosgrove during 2024
Remembrance Sunday 10th November 2024
On a dry but chilly Sunday morning village members came together at the village flagpole to commemorate those that have served and especially those that paid the ultimate sacrifice from Cosgrove and Old Stratford.
David Smith read the Exhortation:
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
The Last Post sounded from a discreetly placed speaker, with the the village clock chiming 11.00am to begin the two-minute silence. David then read the Epitaph:
"When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today."
The names of the 34 servicemen from the two villages, who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the two World Wars was read out by Colin Kightley.
Ex serviceman, Steve Radford laid the wreath at the foot of the village sign.

Easter weekend has provided another volunteering day. In 2023 we held a village litter pick and this year our group of volunteers have cleaned and painted the inside of the bus shelter, improved the guttering to catch more rain water for watering the planters, straightened the litter bin mounting post and removed a concrete slap from the Playing Field.
An ongoing battle with ivy on the Cemetery wall and gate pillar was also tackled. Previous work had severed the ivy's feed stems, causing it to die off and dry. Small sections of the dead plant were carefully peeled away to avoid damage to the wall and pillar.
Thank you all for your highly valued efforts.
